Pizzabox – Growing Instructions

Getting Started
Sowing & Growing
Harvesting
Crate Care
Getting Started
  • As soon as possible after receipt remove the plants from their packaging and check the compost. If dry then give them a drink. The plants will be fine left in the pots for a few days until you are ready to plant them – just keep them somewhere warm and light
  • Position the crate in a sunny, sheltered spot
  • Place the liner in the crate making sure you push it down into the corners, leaving any excess liner overhanging the sides
  • Fill the crate to about 1cm from the top using moist general purpose compost and firm the surface
  • Trim the excess liner so that it is level with the crate lip
Sowing & Growing
  • Position the plants on the surface as per the template
  • Plant the tomatoes and herbs so that the top of their rootballs are level with the compost surface
  • Give a thorough watering
  • Water the plants regularly but don’t allow the compost to become over-wet
  • Crimson Crush Tomatoes are a cordon variety so pinch off any side shoots as they appear and stake and tie-in the main stem
Harvesting
  • Your tomatoes are ripe when they are a uniform crimson colour and firm but with a little give when gently squeezed
  • Remove the tomatoes from the vine by giving them a little twist, a ripe tomato will easily come away from the plant
  • Pick your basil and oregano leaves as and when you need them
Crate Care

Your crate has already been treated with a weather-resistant stain that should last for about 3 years. After this time, to keep your crate in tip-top condition, please re-treat as required. Your crate will last longer if stored under cover during the worst of the winter weather.
